Francine Shapiro (February 18, 1948 – June 16, 2019) was an American psychologist and educator who originated and developed eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), a form of psychotherapy for resolving the symptoms of traumatic and other disturbing life experiences.
Shapiro was born on June 20, 1973, in Kansas City, Missouri. [7] He spent a few years of his childhood on a U.S. Navy base where his father, Steven Shapiro, served as a medical officer, [8] before the family moved to Dresher, Pennsylvania, a community in Upper Dublin Township in Montgomery County. [9]
As of the end of fiscal year 2010, the center had an annual budget expenditure of US$68,111,000. [4] As of the end of fiscal year 2008, the center had 1,119 employees, 587 residents and an annual cost per resident of $175,844. [5] The Shapiro Center was generating and submitting to the state treasury, 65% of its total operational costs.
Peter Shapiro, who grew up in New York City, is the grandson of Ezra Shapiro, a former world chairman of the Keren Hayesod (the world's largest fundraising organizations for Israel), and the great-grandnephew of Joel Elias Spingarn, one of the first Jewish leaders of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
