Francine Shapiro (February 18, 1948 – June 16, 2019) was an American psychologist and educator who originated and developed eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), a form of psychotherapy for resolving the symptoms of traumatic and other disturbing life experiences.
Shapiro had lung disease at the end of his life, and died from respiratory failure at his home in South Orange, New Jersey, in March 2024 the age of 71. [1] The New York Times reported he died on March 28, [ 1 ] while the New Jersey Globe and a funeral home notice gave his date of death as March 29.
