Avon is a town in Washington Township, Hendricks County, Indiana, United States. The population was 21,474 at the 2020 census . It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area .
Avon is served by South Dakota Highway 50, which runs east–west in the northern part of town. According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 0.64 square miles (1.66 km 2 ), all land.
The Falcon Hotel (branded as the Hotel Indigo since 2019) is a grade II* listed hotel, with origins in the early 16th century on Chapel Street in the centre of Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England.
Due to numerous geographic and tidal restrictions along the River Avon, the Avonmouth Docks Co. was formed to build the new docks at Avonmouth. The new docks, now called Avonmouth Old Dock, were opened in February 1877, the hope being that this would usher in a new era for the port of Bristol. [5]
Avon is home to the Avon Lakers, whom are part of the Amateur Baseball Victory League. The club was established in July 1979 by the Avon Lions Club when official construction of its baseball park began. The Avon Lions Club purchased land directly south of the old park which at that time consisted of a pasture and a small pond.
Other relics of Avon's existence include the Avon Cycleway (first designed and promoted by Cyclebag), an 85-mile (137 km) circular route on quiet roads and cycle paths, which was a precursor of the National Cycle Network. Also, Avon County Council helped fund Sustrans' first cycleway, the Bristol and Bath Railway Path.
